Perveen Khokar’s Retirement Party

Perveen enjoys reminiscences by Our Harbour Board members, residents and volunteers

Much of the Our Harbour community turned out at the Saint-Lambert Curling Club on May 24th to celebrate with Perveen Khokhar.  After 13 years of loving, dedicated service to our organization, she is retiring. Those gathered heard many warm stories highlighting her indelible contribution to the development of Our Harbour and her special way with residents. As Coordinator almost from the beginning, she helped steer Our Harbour toward the egalitarian, welcoming place it is today. Her bright smile, sparkling eyes and considered approach will be missed.

Our Harbour and the Arts!

The riveting exhibition Seeds of Hope – in the face of suicide at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in late March 2017 featured two works by Our Harbour members. Through Concordia University Professor Yehudit Silverman’s art therapy sessions, four groups of affected individuals constructed masks capturing their feelings about this topic. By working together, they were able to talk with others with comparable experiences and produce a public expression of a part of themselves they usually lock away. In the videos accompanying the exhibit, each of them got to expand on the process of making their mask, another way to reduce the stigma associated with suicide.

An Our Harbour resident’s first-hand experience of suicidal ideation was captured in this mask:
