Our Harbour’s support for its residents living with mental illness goes well beyond providing friendly, affordable places to live.
Our Harbour’s lead coordinator for resident care, Perveen Khokhar, runs lunchtime workshops for residents that constructively address their particular needs. Last year all of the available residents took part. Their high participation rate many enthusiastic comments speak to the success of the approach.
Perveen conducts interactive learning and problem-solving opportunities in a variety of locations: outdoors, in the residents’ apartments and in an office building. Through a variety of engaging activities, she helps the residents build relationships, enhance their quality of life, develop valuable tools for daily living and promote their own recovery.
Planned topics include:
-problem solving through team work
-addressing sleep issues
-nutrition and exercise
-the importance of resiliency
-building effective communication skills
